Police investigate reported butcher knife attack and robbery on Summit Ave

Seattle Police and homicide detectives were investigating a reported assault with weapon late Saturday night on Capitol Hill’s Summit Ave. According to police radio dispatches, a taxi driver’s hand was cut by a suspect carrying a butcher knife.

The reported attack occurred around 11:10 PM near the intersection of Summit Ave and E Olive St. No official details are yet available about the assault but police were still searching the area for a possible suspect a half hour after the reported attack. The suspect was described as a white male, 25 to 30, 5’5″ to 5’6″, 250 pounds, glasses, green hoodie, blue jeans, carrying a backpack — and armed with a butcher knife.

[mappress mapid=”1″]The taxi driver reportedly sustained a serious laceration to the hand and was robbed in the incident, according to police radio dispatches.

UPDATE — Sunday, 3/17/13 9:57 PM: SPD confirms the basic details of the investigation and says the initial report indicated that a male who had hired the cab robbed the driver and was armed with a butcher knife. Seattle Fire tells us the cabbie suffered a cut to his hand but it was not serious enough to require transporting him to the emergency room.

Well, hopefully he was a fare, so the cab’s internal camera got a snapshot of the suspect.

I’m not at all shocked it happened in that area. That’s why I use E Olive Way, Broadway, Bellevue Ave, and E Pine St when I need to get through this area. Definitely never Summit. It gets super sketchy within that perimeter at night.
