Seattle Fire initiated a low-angle rope rescue response Wednesday morning to remove a man found injured in the brambles and bushes below Capitol Hill’s Louisa Boren Park.
The green space above Interlaken Park at 15th Ave E and E Galer was filled with Seattle Fire crews, police and onlookers as the victim was placed on a rescue sled in the bushes about 30 feet down the steep embankment.
We have no immediate word on injuries but it was believed the man may have been in the bushes all night long. The initial 911 call reporting somebody moaning below the park came in just after 10:30a. The victim was found naked and was conscious as the rescue crew delivered him to a waiting ambulance.

Sure it will be on the news at noon.
I knew something was up when I saw the helicopter circling. Checked the 911 web page and saw the rope rescue. Thanks for covering this so quickly!
It was also on the CHS news at 11:34a. Thanks for watching.
I’ll check on the chaplain. The man appeared to pretty agitated so it’s possible they brought in to calm him down. I know the chaplain often indicates that somebody has died but also is brought in for traumatic experiences or any time somebody asks for support.
great coverage jc – hope the person is ok…
Last night there was a large group of what sounded like older teens running up and down 17th ave E between Galer and Garfield (right by the park). They were chasing each other and hiding all over in the yards. Sounded harmless enough but I wonder if this was related. Maybe one of them tried to hide in the park and got too close to the edge? Do we know the age of the man yet? They were pretty amped up but it didn’t sound like trouble.
Well, hopefully this is an indication that crime is down or something. There were actually thirteen (13) emergency vehicles on scene to deal with a non-injured man in the bushes. And, it indicates above, a helicopter! And, a chaplain. Lots and lots of police and firefighters standing around when I passed by. I guess their services were not needed elsewhere.
Does not support the notion that Seattle’s emergency services are overtaxed!
Half way between the 2 entrances to Louisa Boren Park (from 15th ave east and from Interlaken, there is a dome tent which has been there for weeks. Near the tent are piles of toilet paper soiled with poop. The parks dept has been alerted. Will they ever do anything about it?
I have occasionally reported homeless camps when they are on Parks Dept property, and generally have had a good response. They do have to give the “residents” 72-hour notice before they go in and clean the place out, and I believe they also offer help with some kind of temporary housing (usually refused).
But you have to be sure and call the appropriate phone number to report these…it is the Maintenance Dept at 684-7250. If you don’t see a response within 1-2 weeks, call back.
