Massive power outage hits south Seattle — Capitol Hill unaffected (so far)

Seattle City Light says more than 28,000 customers are without power this afternoon after equipment failures knocked out electricity across a huge swath of south Seattle. Reports of automatic fire alarms triggered by the outage and calls for people stuck in elevators filled the 911 log as the power outage swept the area. Capitol Hill was mostly unaffected though about 3,000 customers are without power near Seattle University south of Jefferson. City Light estimates power will be restored by around 5p. It was back up at my office near 1st and King at 2:15pm.

A few minutes ago, City Light reported, “Power has been restored to all but 600 customers.”

Thanks, Phil. If I hadn’t posted, outage would have lasted all night, spread to Roanoke Park.

…there are 8 outages with one customer each without power — nothing on their site I can find about this big outage. Thanks CHS for providing information that I can’t find anywhere else!
