Man says ripped off in Belmont heroin buy after refusing to help robbers rob

Police were called to an apartment building in the 1700 block of Belmont early Sunday morning after a man reported he had been robbed by two men he was attempting to buy drugs from.

According to police, the man reported he met one of the suspects downtown and walked up the Hill with him to the Belmont apartment building. Inside, the victim told police, another man was waiting. The two suspects produced a handgun and invited the victim to help them head out to rob someone.

The victim told the men he wanted his drugs first. The men then took his money but the victim said he did not get the heroin he was trying to purchase. The suspects refused to let the man leave so he made a dash for it, the victim told police. As he escaped, the two suspects caught him and beat him before he got away.

Police responded but couldn’t find the men and nobody answered the door at the unit where the victim said the incident began.

The victim was treated for minor injuries and transported for medical detox.

I live on this block and saw the apartment building they’re referring to. It’s one of the many halfway houses on that block. There’s frequent drug-related activity around there. It’s less than awesome.

It’s hard to feel sorry for a guy like this. If you run with the devil, in the illegal drug world, you’re going to pay the consequences, and you will deserve whatever goes down.

Using heroin, not commendable. However, seems to me, beating and robbing another person is more reprehensible than illegal drug use. Furthermore, I point to a previous CHS post about a chain of overdoses which occurred a stone’s throw from Belmont Ave 1700 block.

I’ve lived within a block of this location for four years. As Chris nores, it is a row of halfway houses. There is no question that anyone can observe drug related activity and shady characters. But from recent CHS reports, there is more light on the situation. I’m not certain that there has been a qualitative increase of shady business.
