Man beaten with 2×2 in reported First Hill apartment invasion robbery

A man told police he was beaten with a 2×2 piece of lumber by a suspect who busted through the door of his First Hill apartment Tuesday night.

The man told police his assailant was an acquaintance who had left a package at his apartment weeks ago and came back to demand its return Tuesday night.

According to police, the victim told the suspect through the closed apartment door that he no longer had the package. At that point, the suspect reportedly began busting through the door and then repeatedly struck the victim with the wood 2×2. The suspect reportedly then searched the apartment. When he couldn’t find what he was looking for, the victim said the suspect then demanded money. The beaten victim said he handed over all of his cash and the suspect also took his iPhone before leaving the apartment and fleeing the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s or 40s, 6’3″ and 190 pounds with an athletic build. A search of the area was not successful.

The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries including a large lump on the side of his forehead and swelling in his right arm.

Storing a suspicious package for an shifty, violent acquaintance is a sacred trust. You can’t just lose the package and expect not to be beaten around the head and arms.

Yeah, right.
Gee, I wonder what was in it?

This episode does not seem to be all purity – but – there is no excuse for a banging with a club.

More’s the shame that you consider it ok to have someone beaten around the head and arms because of this. Sure it’s probably drugs or the like, but to come into someone’s house and beat them, demand cash and then have people justify it saying well, that’s what happens and that’s what you should expect. That is not what a civilized community is about… and the reason there are so many people having to live in fear of situations because people become accustomed to having license to do what they want when they want like this.

We don’t know the details of the reasons for this assault, but I for one would never in a million years hold a package (especially if it contained drugs, which is likely) for an “acqaintance” who is a violent urban thug. It’s just not very prudent to do this. However, this crime was in no way justified, and I hope the perp is soon caught and ends up in the slammer.

“…who is a violent urban thug”

Way to skirt around calling him a “violent black guy”. Bravo.

No need to skirt around anything. Clearly the guy IS a violent urban thug. He beat the crap out of this guy w/ a 2×2. So is it not self-evident? “If it quacks like a duck….”.

And the article already clearly reported that the guy is black, so why mention it again?

Depending on what happened to the package. If the “victim” sold the package and did not intend to compensate the acquaintance, the acquaintance should beat the shit out of him and take property of equal value in exchange. It’s basic English common law Magna Carta type stuff.

Man, I’ve been looking for Rough Trade since I moved to Seattle.
They told me there was gonna be Great Northwest Lumberjacks wearing flannel shirts, dirty jeans, and big filthy boots…all I see are a bunch of Niles Cranes, princesses, and queens. What’s with all the noodle-eating?

You’ll need to leave your own bathroom for that view to change.

Gosh, can’t win…If one mentions that a perp is black, he/she is immediately accused of “racism.” If one instead uses another word to describe the perp, he/she is accused of “skirting” the issue.

Sheesh….

Baloney. It’s vigilantism, aka “taking the law into your own hands.”
