A scene from a Capitol Hill-ween past (Image: CHS)
Based on walkability, population density and median home value, Zillow says Capitol Hill didn’t make the cut of the top five Seattle neighborhoods for trick or treating in 2011. Clearly, Zillow needs to add a “Halloween magic” feature to its rankings.
Below, we’ve included Zillow’s neighborhood list and their national rankings for the top cities for scoring candy as well as updated our CHS trick-or-treating guide map for 2011. If you live in a pocket of the Hill that should get a hotspot on the map, let us know.

Plain laughable we aren’t #1 on that list.
Maybe I’ll only need 5 Costco bags of candy this year instead of the usual 8.
Is it that surprising that we didn’t rank highly? Lots of controlled entrance apartments. Younger people who don’t have a lot to spend on huge bags of quality candy. Not many kids in most parts of the neighborhood.
A great place to party for Halloween? Yes. To trick or treat? Probably not so much.
I don’t know where exactly I was on Capitol Hill last year, but I stumbled across a trick or treat mecca in a ritzy pocket. This block was INSANE, I mean, I am a grown up and was still freaking out. Every house on the street was super decorated and most even had shows happening on the front lawn (some of which were pretty elaborate!)! Super fun! We should be on that list!
I think that you are thinking of 17th Ave E between Roy and Aloha. Big houses with big displays on both sides of the street and van loads of kids.
Hottest spot for 30 years has always been between 15th ave down to 22nd ave with cross streets Galer and Aloha! Zillow doesn’t know what they are talking about! We have used a ‘clicker’ and one year counted over 350 kids in less than 3 hrs.
