In a police report released last week, SPD details a “home invasion style” robbery at an apartment in the 400 block of E Union on the night of Wednesday, August 31st. In the remarkably brief write-up of the robbery, below, the responding officer documents the theft of cash, bank cards and a phone from a man and a woman in the apartment by two robbers reportedly armed with handguns.
Last week, CHS reported on an attempted street mugging a few blocks away on Saturday, September 3rd in which the victim was struck in the head and threw his phone at his Droid phone at his assailant to escape.
The line “they demanded to know where the money was” seems to indicate to me that these guys knew there was $235 stashed somewhere in the apartment. I’m thinking this wasn’t so random.
Home Invasions are on the increase, and it is not true any longer that they are all about drugs or drug money. Thieves can get a bigger haul than from the local mini mart with time controlled safe. All armed robbers say ‘where’s your money, where’s the jewelry’, where’s your phone, While they are intimidating you. It’s street talk. When I was robbed in my home on a sunny afternoon, they said all of this to me and more. For the record, the thugs got 400 bucks from my safe, though I had to show them where it was.
