It’s time to host your own Capitol Hill block party — See the map of 2011 street parties

So, let me get this straight. You want to block the street, play some loud music and serve beer in the middle of it all? Who do you think you are, Dave Meinert? Go for it. The city is waiving the fee to close your non-arterial street in Seattle next Tuesday night, August 2nd as part of the National Night Out community safety initiative. According to the city’s map, exactly ZERO streets have been registered to be part of the night. But we’ve found out that’s not accurate — so we touched base with the East Precinct to get the complete roster for central Seattle. You can see the map below. And, good news: There’s still time to organize a party for your block.

You should throw a block party on Tuesday.

  1. Decide to be a neighborhood leader for your non-arterial street. You may not close Broadway. You may close E Ward St.
  2. Register the event on the Seattle Night Out calendar
  3. Print up goofy signs so you can feel the power of street closure
  4. Invite your neighbors (and make sure CHS knows about your fun, too — [email protected])

Map with registered parties as of Thursday night is below.

…hate the inevitable argument with overly smug jerks blocking my driveway on my way home from work.

There is one happening right in front of my apartment on 11th Ave E. but I can’t go because I work on Tuesday nights. This is, of course, after I waited two+ years to get weekend evenings freed up so I wouldn’t miss out on neighborhood events all the time. (shakes fist)

Ah well, someone have a hot dog and make an awkward first impression for me.

Nice idea but with this not-to-taste, distorted bass throbbing against my apartment windows for the past four hours on 16th E , feel more antagonized than inspired and, of course, resentful that I’m not allowed to say, “Oh, dear, would you mind terribly turning it down?” without extreme bizarreness. I don’t know, maybe everyone else is keen or whatever for all the hours and hours. If I get a vote for next year, can you organizers consider skipping the amplification? Thank you for any consideration.

Awesome idea, maybe we’ll add a cabaret next year.
Really though, if you would have asked, I would have had the DJ
turn it down. It is all about community, I hope you’ll join us next year.
