We all know how this nation’s founders spent the 4th of July, 1776. Getting high on hemp, right? The 2nd of July? That was a day of debate and revision as the Declaration of Independence was pounded out. We’re all about a good edit so we’re excited to be co-sponsoring the 9th annual Cal Anderson Park Independence Day Picnic this Saturday, July 2nd — the 235th anniversary of what we like to imagine was a robust argument over liberty. This Saturday’s modern improvements on that argument will include music by Cumulus, Land of Pines, kid rockers The Not-It’s, and The Wichita Players, food by Skillet, Molly Moon’s, and Pai’s, free kite making, egg-toss, Root Beer Tasting Garden, a Spin Art Bike, patriotic Venn Diagrams, a pie-eating contest, temporary tattoos, Urban Family Portraits for any and all types of families and undoubtedly more random goodness.
Here are the details:
The Cal Anderson Park Alliance announces the 9th Annual Independence Day Picnic: A day of music, food and fun to celebrate our country and community. This free event is open to the public and will be held at the Cal Anderson Park Sunbowl Meadow on Saturday, July 2nd from 12 to 5 pm. With the goal of welcoming every member of the Capitol Hill community to celebrate together, the Independence Day Picnic is CAPA’s signature event of the year.
You can RSVP here via Facebook.
This year’s picnic will also feature a short performance produced by the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center highlighting the life of Cal Anderson, the park’s namesake and Washington’s first openly gay legislator.
Forecast calls for sunny skies with highs in the low 70s.
Can the anarchists come to this too? Please can they? Maybe damage and destroy more things to teach the law abiders what for?
