The homeless man we reported on this weekend who was left lying unconscious in the street at E Pike and 11th was drunk and had been shoving pedestrians when he apparently pushed the wrong guy. According to the SPD report on the incident, the man told officers he was “fucking wasted on scotch” when he pushed a man at 11th and Pike. According to witnesses, the man said “You want a piece of me?”
“Yes,” the victim replied.
Witnesses say the suspect then threw one punch to the victim’s mouth, knocking him to the pavement where he hit his head and was knocked out.
Full report on the incident from SPD is below. No suspect description was included in the report.
On 5/28/2011 while working a marked SPD patrol car (2E11) I responded with officers to a report of an assault near 11th and E Pike St, where the victim was unconscious.
Officers conducted an area check but were unable to locate the suspects. I assisted fire with back boarding the victim. was unresponsive and unconscious and breathing for approximately 8-10 minutes.
It was determined that , who appeared highly intoxicated and later admitted to being, “fucking wasted on scotch”, was walking west bound inthe 1100 block of E Pike St, randomly pushing and shoving pedestrians. In the cross walk of E Pike St and 11th Ave, pushed an unknown suspect. The unknown suspect retaliated with a single punch mouth. immediately fell to the ground, hit his head and loss consciousness.

A computer record’s check of did not return a valid WA DOL.was identified himself, his name matched that on his credit/debit card. said he is a transient in the area
What’s the crime here?
Sounds like he got what was coming to him.
I dunno, it sounds like everybody kind of sucks here, but I do think the guy who knocked him out should have called 911 or something.
cheap whiskey maybe, but not scotch.
I take that back, some homeless dudes do very well for themselves. hehe.
This isn’t my ex. Certainly is his area and MO.
the report said his name matched his credit/debit card? they’re just giving these out to guys on the street now? where do they send the bill to?
Agreed.

Right, and When Seconds Count, Police Are Only Minutes Away
Both people were guilty of Assault…One for being drunk and disorderly, the other for leaving the scene of an Assault. No Punches every need to be thrown. Smarten Up Folks and teach your kids to do great things, Not This.
The assailant specifically asked the drunk bum if he wanted a piece of said assailant. When the drunk bum replied that, indeed, he DID want a piece of the assailant, the assailant completed the transaction in a forthwith manner.
I see nothing to criticize here, beyond the drunk bum getting wasted and answering in the positive when he surely should have answered in the negative.
I wonder what the bum will say the next time someone asks him this pertinent question?
It’s like what I was thinking, except with better grammar.
Like the Will Ferral movie “stranger than fiction”
To all you punks who don’t see a problem-
please get some compassion. there isn’t much left in this sick, egotistical, selfish country – but just f-ing try
so you’re saying its okay to leave a man for dead in the middle of an arterial street?
only a goddamned COWARD punches a drunk, homeless man in the face and then RUNS from the scene after the poor drunk hits his head on the concrete, out cold in the middle of Pike street.
how about if you were drunk and violent, and I asked you if you wanted me to fire a round of 3″ high brass buckshot in your face? am i obligated to comply if you’re a smart-ass and answer in the affirmative? don’t answer its rhetorical.
paul (who is not dead) says:
“please get some compassion”
I have plenty of compassion. Let’s see where I lose it:
1. Man is a bum.
Well, that truly is unfortunate. Nobody wants to be a bum. Although I do believe in personal responsibility, who knows what life path brought such a man to his present state. The man has my sympathy and the benefit of my charity.
2. Man who is bum gets drunk.
Still compassionate, but a bit less so. Never the loo, I understand that life is hard and even more so for those of the bum life. An occasional downing of a good portion of spirits is understandable.
3. Man who is a bum gets drunk and starts punching random people on street.
Oh. Well, that did it. Compassion gone! Drunk bum has crossed the lines of the social contract we’re operating under and is due to receive his comeuppance. Too bad for him it was somebody with a mean right cross.

But I can’t help myself! I *must* answer!
Paul, if I am ever drunk and violent and am attacking other people out and about on the Hill AND you just happen to be poking along with your big ol’ shotgun and you ask me if I want some of your kindly offered buckshot and I reply in the affirmative, I say it is your DUTY to comply with my wishes. You may then choose to run away from the crime scene (though I recommend a slow, languid walk… better not to attract undue attention) or not. Either way, I will not think the lesser of you.
