Rescue on First Hill after car falls down hospital elevator shaft — UPDATE: Crash photos

Emergency units responded to Virginia Mason’s parking garage at 9th and Seneca this afternoon after a car crashed through a wall and fell 10 feet down an elevator shaft. SFD says one person had to be rescued after the car fell 10 feet but gad no apparent significant injuries. The other occupant of the vehicle was able to get out of the car on their own.

I had to ask myself “did I read that right?” a couple times when I read “car falls down elevator shaft”! Maybe time for them to retake the driver licensing test.

I know – I thought it had to mean the ELEVATOR car had fallen…but no. Yowza!!

I can’t begin to imagine how much this is going to cost! State min insurance? Hope not!

Updated information posted at 5:10p is what was ultimately determined to have occurred. The first report at 2:03p was wrong about the sequence of events.
