CHS Pics: Thanks to voting early + often, next Capitol Hill park wins $10k of support

After stuffing the ballot with some 3,800 votes, Capitol Hill community groups gathered Wednesday morning for the announcement of the winner of Umpqua Bank’s Block by Block Challenge. Three finalists had been selected for a community vote on up-to-$10,000 in support for a neighborhood project. When the votes had been tallied, a project to help fund the development of FedRep Park squeezed out a narrow victory over improvements at the Summit Slope p-patch. An idea to create a community flyer kiosk on Capitol Hill finished a distant third. Representatives for both groups spent recent weeks taking liberal advantage of the voting rules which allowed a vote per day per person. But, no, dogs were not allowed to vote. Thanks for trying.

Applauding Wednesday morning’s announcement

Some parks have all the luck. The FedRep Park space will also be the home of the community lot for the 2011 Capitol Hill Garage Sale Day on June 11th. You can get involved with FedRep here.
