CHS Pics: Views of Broadway Farmers Market’s new home

At 11am Sunday morning, the Broadway Farmers Market celebrated its opening day of the season at its new home in front of Seattle Central Community College.  The market relocated from parking lot of the now demolished Bank of America building to a much more visible front on Broadway, stretching all the way to East Pine Street.  Vendors on hand included many fresh fruit and produce stands, as well as organic meats, sweet treats, and troves of flower vendors.  It made for a perfect spot to pick up weekly groceries or a bouquet of flowers for Mother’s Day.

The Broadway Farmers Market will be open every Sunday from now until December 18, from 11am to 3pm.  For a list of all vendors and products at this market, click here. What did you think of the new space?

I liked it, although I saw a lot of people struggling for parking.

I wish that Holmquist Hazelnuts was there today. I’m out of oil!

I went today too and was hoping it would be over on the grassy areas, not the main sidewalk. I tried walking thru with my large puppy and it was a hassle and became frustrated. When people see a booth they want to visit they stop…and so does everyone else behind them. Kinda reminds me of walking through the Pike Place Market vendor’s area. Too many people, sandwich boards, booths and people to deal with while maneuvering around. I’ll still go though…just with no dog and a lot of patience. :-)

I see why they didn’t put the booths on the grass – as the SCCC lawn would be completely demolished by having the booths there – but traffic flow on the bricks was poor. I imagine it’ll be a lot worse later in the season when there are more booths. Hopefully people will figure out how to move through the stalls more effectively.

I’m just glad that there is still a market in Cap Hill though, and SCCC is actually closer to me, so yay.

After the rumor that they had been bumped out of the Capitol Hill Farmer’s Market, I was delighted to see them there today – doing a very brisk business.

I think the new location has a lot better visibility @ the corner of pine and broadway, but of course the first day at a new location means a few foot-traffic hiccups. It was slightly difficult to navigate the more linear-layout but I think that over time people will figure out a better flow. Overall I thought there was more energy at this location and am just happy I don’t have to ride my bike all the way to Ballard or the U-District farmers markets now (at least until December!)

and the crowd – what a great day yesterday. The market felt so visible and open. We came in on foot from the back side of the college, so access didn’t seem that difficult. Maybe the College could work out parking in its garage for market customers.

Loved the music pouring out of BWAY Performance Hall

Glad it’s in season again…

Leaving Fido at hone might make maneuvering easier. Excuse me, did I state the obvious??
