As we were reporting on the opening of a furniture shop on Madison Tuesday, tipster Residual alerted us that vintage shop That’s Atomic at E Olive Way and E Howell is closing. Owner Pam Garl confirmed that the shop would be shuttering it’s doors April 14.
Hand-painted signs have been hung in the windows announcing the impending closure. Garl declined to speak at the time about the shop’s reasons for closing.
I have an amazing school-type pull down map of Washington State from here, as well as bits and bobs from over the years. I’m a regular at Dunnes, and I’ll sit in the window and scope out the sidewalk goods across the streets.
What’s the rent at this storefront? I hope something equally great and funky moves in. Sorry to see That’s Atomic go.
Shop early and often before they go :(
I remember when they consolidated into the single space a few years ago. The story was that the building had been bought by a company that was raising the rents and planning to tear down the existing buiding to develop the property. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, those storefronts are such great spaces.
no mystery as to why we are closing. Didn’t sign a new lease. The building remains the same and is slowly being refurbished into the great old building it is. No plans for teardown that I have ever heard of.
