The Seattle Weekly has the details of a Capitol Hill man seemingly bent on the destruction of their — and the Stranger’s — neighborhood newspaper boxes:
Recently, however, The Stranger’s circulation manager Kevin Shurtluff managed to catch McDermott in the act of taking out a bunch of issues from a box on Madison Street and he recorded the encounter in a video (though he asked us not to post it). In it, McDermott–who besides trashing newspaper boxes is a regular at Planned Parenthood protests–rails that the papers are “pushing perversion on a public street.”
He seems to take issue with the adult classified ads in the back of the newspapers.
Shurtluff caught McDermott again a week later and at that point, he called police. According to a police report obtained by Seattle Weekly, Seattle Police Officer Felton Miles showed up on March 3 and found McDermott on the street and talked to him about what Shurtluff had just seen him doing.
The bearded old “white-boy warrior preacher” (as he once described himself) said that he “doesn’t take the newspapers or destroy them, he just inconveniences them.”
Print is dead.
“print is dead” …says the printed word. *hits Ctrl + P*
Print is dead – tell that to the Times, still the 900 pound gorilla in Seattle ….oh, you read a lot of blogs. Good for you.
said that he “doesn’t take the newspapers or destroy them, he just inconveniences them.”
Yeah Gadaffi Doesn’t kill his own people, he just inconveniences them.
@marcg140 Scruffing up some alternative weekly newspaper boxes equates to mass murder how exactly?
“Who cares?
Print is dead.”
Alt-papers are the only worthwhile dead-tree media.
You don’t seem like much of a reader, yourself.
“@marcg140 Scruffing up some alternative weekly newspaper boxes equates to mass murder how exactly? “
He’s vandalizing things, not “inconveniencing”.
