Jseattle junior calls it the “Angry Guy” place. And also loves eating there. The weekend will bring a moral dilemma pitting hungry stomachs vs. sustainability-guilty brains — for some of us — as Capitol Hill’s only conveyor belt sushi joint is doing a $1 a plate special Sunday.
Connoisseurs can easily brush off Genki Sushi’s kaiten offering on quality grounds. The rest of us don’t get off so easily. Good luck limiting yourself to the “Best Choice” column from the Monterrey Bay Aquarium’s Sushi Guide at Genki. At least don’t eat the farmed salmon, cool?
So, there you have it. There’s your morale dilemma for the weekend, Capitol Hill. You can worry about Genki being part of a global chain of restaurants some other weekend because, hey, $1.
I’m amazed when I see the huge crowds freezing outside Genki to get in on $1 night. On any other night the plates cost between $1 and $2, so even if you’re hungry you’re spending all that extra time in the cold to save five bucks.
Dollar night hysteria aside, I love Genki. To me the only thing unsustainable about them are their thermoses of green tea.
