Two new Capitol Hill salons focus on everything from your toes (Polished) to your lashes (Blink)

Just how beautiful is Capitol Hill? If two new Hill businesses are any indication, we’re so darned pretty we’ve graduated to the next level of specialization in our beauty care. Polished is open and ready to take care of your fingers and toes while an even more finely targeted salon is being built right now in the Loveless Building. Details on both, below.

Polished is a brand new chic, boutique parlor that just opened in the space formerly inhabited by Swoon Spa.  The new space has been refreshed, with new coats of paint on the walls, wooden floors replacing the concrete, and a staff of lovely ladies at your service. The owner of Polished is Irene Parkhill, a full-time dentist with her own practice in White Center, who opened the salon as a creative side project. Teaming up with her sister, who just returned from serving in the Peace Corps in Africa, and several of her friends, Parkhill aims to make Polished a service-oriented, social place where clients feel comfortable while they are receiving treatments.

Prior to opening, the salon space went through an aesthetic face lift. According to Parkhill, even the smallest details such as the way the restroom is styled, and replacing the concrete floor with wood make an important difference. Parkhill and her team view Polished as their home, and they intend to treat their clients as guests.

One of the key selling points of Polished is their strict adherence to proper sterilization, a concept emphasized by Parkhill due to her background in health care. Polished uses the same sterilization unit used in dental and medical offices, promoting a clean and safe environment.

Polished has been open for two weeks now, and although their client base is mostly walk-ins and former Swoon patrons, Parkhill said they have received a warm neighborhood welcome so far.  A grand opening party is being planned for sometime next year.

Blink Lash Bar coming soon
Meanwhile on north Broadway, the Loveless Building is bustling with activity as a dynamic duo shapes one of the retail in suites into a new salon. Here are the details on Blink Lash Bar from co-owner Corey Parker:

My fiancée Brittany and I are opening a salon that specializes exclusively in eyelash extensions.  I believe we are the only salon in Seattle that provides this as the sole service.

Eyelash extensions are becoming more and more popular in the Seattle area, as it provides people with the opportunity to wake up looking glamorous effortlessly without having to apply makeup.  The lashes are semi-permanent, waterproof extensions that are applied straight to the real lash, one lash at a time.

In light of the fact that this is such a highly skilled service, we are solely focusing on this service.  There are a handful of these services popping up in the back of nail salons and spas as a secondary service offered.  However, if not applied properly, one’s real lashes can be ruined and can result in discomfort to the eye.

If maintained properly, the lashes can last anywhere from four to six weeks.  As long as the client returns within the one month window, they can take advantage of a quick touch-up at a significantly reduced price.  We are seeking to customize each set of lashes to the individual, designing the perfect length and fullness to suit each client.

We have only hired licensed estheticians that are also certified in eyelash extension application and have been practicing applying the extensions for a minimum of one year to ensure the service is performed flawlessly every time.

We are hoping to open in February and we are currently undergoing construction.  Our location is right next to Danielle’s Ada Technical Book Store in the Loveless Building.  We are investing a substantial amount in the layout and design of the location to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible, and a welcoming environment for our clientele.

We’ll have more on Blink this winter.
