Quiet Capitol Hill holiday for crime: Muggers, car prowlers take week off but burglars busy

If it seems like things have been quiet on the CHS crime beat, it’s not that we’re totally distracted by the holiday punch bowl. Capitol Hill had an extremely quiet holiday week in most crime categories including violent crimes like street robberies and property crimes like car prowls. Burglars, however, still put int a little work in the Hill’s core. Here’s a look at a crooks’ vacation on Capitol Hill.

The holiday spirit was alive and well as Capitol Hill muggers took the week off. Here’s the mapping of Capitol Hill violent crime for the week. You can visit SeattleCrime’s map for details on the incidents. You don’t get a sense of the relative quietness on the Hill in the period from this map view — but over on the live map you can change the date periods to see how busy our streets usually are.

Meanwhile, conventional wisdom seems to hold that homes are likely to be burgled and cars, prowled when more people are away on holiday. Here is a map of the last week in reported* burglaries, let, and car prowls called-in, right.

The cluster of reported burglaries around Broadway and 15th shows that not every Grinch was on vacation. But we’re surprised to see so few car prowl calls given holiday anecdotes we’ve heard over the years. Maybe not enough of you are back from vacation yet. If so, sorry about that stereo.
