Golazo Energy reactivating old East Pike BMW dealership

The old BMW dealership at 714 East Pike is, indeed, reactivated, but not in the way any of the rumors we’d been hearing had predicted. Seattle-based sports drink start-up Golazo Energy is putting the large former auto retail show floor to work as temporary office and storage space, according to a company spokesman. They might also have a few surprises for the new space up their shin guards.

Sport drink is apparently just the start of things for Golazo. “Golazo LLC is a soccer passion company that will create many soccer focused consumer products in it’s future,” company rep Alex Rosenast tells CHS.

While Golazo isn’t saying they’re making Capitol Hill their new HQ, they are busy in the area. This weekend, the soccer-focused sports drink brand is holding a “launch party” at the former BMW space — it includes a 4-on-4 soccer tournament. They’re not confirming anything but we’re thinking there’s probably room for a pitch or two inside a 28,350-square foot building that Golazo now shares with another tenant who is using the Pine side of the full-block structure for storage. Golazo also has maintained an office near Qwest Field, naturally.

By the way, the shared East Pike situation got off to a bit of a rocky start last week. On November 8th, police were called to the location to investigate an apparent break-in. According to the SPD, it looked like somebody had entered the Golazo end of the building through the Pine street side of the structure. Police say they found old computer gear near an exit from the building where it appeared somebody had loaded up some more old gear from inside. Add another to a recent spate of commercial burglary on the Hill.

Golazo is the creation of Cranium founder Richard Tait. He had said he would leave the game making company after its $77 million 2008 sale to Hasbro was complete. To get a sense of his ambition, here’s part of his 8 tips for entrepreneurial success he recently shared with TechFlash: “Do not stop until you are the best in the world.” In the article, TechFlash reporter John Cook also teases an upcoming story on Golazo. Hope we’re not ruining a scoop, John.

Soccer fans need their DirecTV

Tait has been talking about Golazo with the audience that seems to count most to his new company — soccer fans. Here’s how Golazo describes its roots on its site:

We are a new soccer startup from Seattle, and we are football crazy!! On April 16th 2008 when Mexico played China in a friendly at Qwest field in Seattle, we learned a new word, one that is unique to soccer but evokes the emotion we love about the game, Golazo!! Golazo means SUPER GOAL in Spanish.

At that moment we said let’s create a passion brand for amateur soccer players and fans, one that creates products true to the game and to the fan, inspired by Latin heritage. Not a brand about stadium sponsorships and big name athletes, or one that treats soccer as a second class citizen, but one that stays focused on creating the best products that celebrate what we stand for, a love for soccer and a movement that believes everyone is born to score.

So that’s who we are.

Thanks for your support; we promise we will make you proud, and live up to our name.

Golazo!!!

As for this weekend’s launch party and 4-on-4 tournament, CHS has only one question. Do three other Hill-ites wanna play?

I believe you’re thinking of Mike McCready, he was part owner of Garage at one point, not sure if he is anymore though. I belive he was also one of the owners that sold the property now known as “The People’s Parking Lot.”

Now that seattle has officially been named soccer city USA its great that local entrepreneurs are trying to get involved with the already super succsessfull Seattle Sounders and soccer scence with this drink. At the playoff game against LA they were giving it out for free and it was actually pretty good. Great Work richard Tait and Alex Ronsenast, i hope the launch party is succsessfull!
