Roanoke Tavern burglar breaks door, cuts phone lines but doesn’t get the cash

As we were digging in on September’s residential burglaries around Capitol Hill, a local business was cleaning up after an early Saturday morning break-in. Here are the details on the attempted burglary from the Roanoke’s Facebook page:

Getting a call from the alarm company at 4:30 am while in CA – not fun. To whomever decided to BUST IN THE FRONT DOOR and THE OFFICE DOOR, AND CUT THE PHONE LINES – you suck. A) we do most of our sales in credit/debit cards so there’s little cash and B) IT’S IN THE SAFE. Also, YOU SUCK.

We see the initial report for the SPD dispatch so can confirm the investigation. Also sounds like it was mostly unsuccessful given the Roanoke’s message.

While September’s residential burglary report totals were near recent averages, there were very few commercial burglaries on the Hill. That doesn’t mean stores weren’t ripped off by shoplifters and other creative thievery, however. We got one report from 15th Ave East of a brazen daytime thief who sneaked in through the backdoor of the North Hill Bakery, stole their computer and bolted from the scene. The sneaky thief also made a stop in the nearby dry cleaners next door but our tipster Jackson didn’t say if the daytime burglar got anything in that grab attempt.

As for the Roanoke, it’s also facing another weekend in the ongoing paving project on 10th Ave East. Somebody needs a beer.
