We’re not complaining. But things calmed down considerably this week after last week’s unfortunate flurry of four reported street robberies on Capitol Hill. The last street hold-up we reported on was the stabbing and attempted robbery that happened last Saturday near the Pillars dog park. Through Sunday night, the only significant violent crime reported that we are aware of was an assault that happened Saturday night on East Olive Way. The perp in that one, by the way, was described as a man wearing a black wig with a white flower in it so we’re thinking it might not be that significant — but you never know.
After the four street muggings in the week previous, the only street robbery report on the Hill came into the East Precinct on Thursday — one day after the victim said the incident occurred on Broadway. We’ll look into that but it’s possible that last week was mugging free which is much nicer to report than the one every other day we were reporting earlier this month.
We’ll be taking another look at Capitol Hill crime statistics this week with an update of the East Precinct’s official monthly tallies for 2010 thus far. We’ve also recently looked at the Hill’s crime in comparison with city totals and the month-by-month CHS tally of robberies on the Hill. The last time we cracked open the official SPD dataset only showed the first four months of 2010 so it’s definitely time for an update. We’ve also been asked to try to represent the Hill’s crime data in terms of population. We’ll see what we can do to give you a per capita sense of what is happening on the streets. If you have a favorite source for relatively recent population totals, let us know.
