Hill food and drink: New lounge on north Broadway, Shinka sale, Qdoba says hello with free burritos

  • We noted back in late July that the 700 Broadway building’s Bella Pizza and Pasta and quickly and quietly shut down. We’ve now learned that a lounge is taking over the space where the always-intriguing brown butcher paper is now in place. No word yet when the new neighbor for Roy St. Coffee and Tea and Kinko’s is planned to open. On one hand, the owners have already applied for a liquor license, calling the joint Asanova in the paperwork. On the other, we haven’t found some other key paperwork that would indicate an imminent opening. We’ll try to track down an opportunity to talk with the people behind Asanova and get the scoop.
  • Recently opened Madison coffee shop Fixx is already shut down, Central District New reports. The business is for sale if you are looking for a place that already has the set-up and a plan.
  • Rosebud is hanging in there on East Pike adding lunch and, hey, why not!, trivia.
  • Also on the adding lunch end of things, CHS advertiser TidBit Bistro is now serving panini and midday entrees for lunch, Monday through Friday.
  • Seattle Met’s Jessica Voelker learns some things at Madison Market: “Certainly no one at the co-op needs TV!”
  • Arabica Lounge is reportedly open again after a false start last week. We profiled the new coffee house and lounge here. We were told the lounge shut down for training but it also might have been related to the fact they finally have their liquor license in hand. Have you been? Add your comment in CHS Reviews.
  • We’re told Shinka Tea’s East Olive Way location is — or was — for sale. We also found two listings, one to buy the business and one to buy only the fixtures and furniture. Both listings have been pulled.
  • 5 stars for Poppy from littlebrother in the CHS reviews.
  • Plans for Pike/Pine’s Boom Noodle to add a walk-up Tokyo Sweets counter might have hit a few snags. No word on what the problem is but an employee told us Boom has run into ‘some issues’ with providing a space to sell crepes on East Pike Meanwhile, First Hill’s Creapan Crepe World is up and running on Madison.
  • Cork House celebrated its grand opening over the weekend. Look at these proud Pike/Pine purple purveyors.
  • CHS advertiser and newest tenant in the Joule building, Qdoba Broadway opens today by giving away 200 burritos and various other prizes. Judging by reports we’ve heard about the line, you might already be too late for the free burrito but they’ll be giving away chow and various other goodness — like this fashionable hat — all day. You can learn more on the Qdoba Seattle Facebook page.

OK, fresh ingredients, with coupons, good prices.

Workers not up to speed, first day, to be expected.

Rancho Bravo is still the best.
