I was hanging out at home when I heard marching band music. I went outside to see what was going on and saw a parade put together by capitol hill residents. Does any one know why there was a parade?

Judging by the “Celebrate the lake, not the military” sign

We didn’t hear about it beforehand and a cursory spin around the web didn’t turn anything up. Hopefully somebody can shed more light.
Or, not. The Movitas banner at the head of the march reveals…

“My friends and I, after being inspired by the incredibly DIY parades that happen at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, decided to start out own DIY parade. It’s called Movitas, and the theme this year is Mutiny. It’s happening at the same time as SeaFair, which is a big exuberant celebration of the navy that takes over Seattle every summer. SO our parade is a creative response to militarism in public spaces. It’s not a protest- it’s about making fun and beauty free for everyone.
There’s a marching band forming and we’ve been making beautiful costumes. There will be floats and other awesome stuff. This is participatory culture- we want everyone to make something awesome and march with us. I know a lot of you will be in town for the Downhill on the Friday before, so you should stick around and join us for the parade. It would be awesome to have a big pack of y’all on decorated freak bikes.
here’s the details:
