Howell Collective digs in as Seven Hills Park garden takes shape

Though both Seven Hills Park and the neighboring community garden site still resemble barren dirt lots for the most part, Howell Collective volunteers spent Wednesday morning and early afternoon painting signs and staking off pathways and rows for veggies. The community garden will have its official kick-off September 9 from 6:30 to 8 in the evening. Planting of the winter garden will begin on the following Sunday, September 12.

The Howell Collective was granted $1500 by the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods in late 2009. The Collective differs from standard p-patches because there are no individual plots. The entire garden will be planted, maintained and harvested by the community of volunteers.

So the Parks Department has planted trees at this new park (in August!) and they are going to die unless someone waters them. Nifty about the community garden, and really nice that they have a hose nib for it, but can we get those trees watered properly?
