Neighbor Spanky passes along another item for the Capitol Hill “notes left on things” collection:
I found this on what was left of a bike that is still locked to a rack in front of the hair salon at Summit and John.

Consider it the companion piece to Monday’s special note left on Publicola editor Josh Feit’s bike parked — for too long — in front of Sonic Boom. People certainly choose some colorful language when composing notes to leave on things. It’s almost like reading a neighborhood news blog.
Is this why every bike rack I have ever locked my bike to is covered in abandoned U-shaped locks and combination cables? I just started riding my bike around town and I’m trying to figure this out. Did someone steal everything but the lock? Did they steal everything but the tire it was connected to and then it’s just easier to cut away everything that couldn’t be stolen?
Since it’s Capitol Hill, is it really that far fetched that I thought this story was going to be about a stripper that rides bikes?
I, too, had a different mental image when I read the phrase “bike stripper.”
People will leave bike locks on a rack that they typically use instead of carrying it around (aka carrying it home and back). It might not account for all of the locks, but it is standard practice in many places.
The note seems reasonable to me, I hope the writer of said note has the opportunity to follow through on their actions promised in the note.
Good Day!
…as long as the note writer makes good on his promise. Vigilante justice against thieves/muggers/asshole criminals on the hill FTW.
I had my bike not only stripped but also vandalized. Which is it A-hole do you like bikes or not?!?! If don’t what do you need with bike only gear?
Also this happened in broad daylight in front of La Spiga and said A-hole would have to have been jumping up and down on it to do that much malice. How was he not seen. Needless to say I appreciate the frustration/anger expressed in that note. I am not really a pound them senseless type of guy but I am wondering if that isn’t what A-hole needs.
I’ve seen this guy! I caught him carrying a single wheel at around 10:30 at night on the corner of Summit and Denny last week while he was riding his own bike, this led me to the conclusion that he stole the wheel. I got in front of him and exchanged some choice words, unfortunately I refrained from stomping in his skull because I was not 100% sure if he stole it. Sure enough one block later I see a stripped bike with a matching wheel, I ran after him but he got away.
He’s about 5’9″ with long dirty blond hair. He dresses like a tweaker and was wearing a red cap and carrying a red guitar case on his back. He is definitely carrying tools so be careful if you approach him.
I suggest we set up a sting on Summit between Howell and Thomas, buy a really crappy/thin chain lock and attach it to a nice bike. I will gladly help out with this, if you’d like.
I’m sure you were totally going to ‘stomp his skull’ dude. Thank God we have you out there, protecting the night.
Anything that makes the lives of you bike douches harder, I’m a fan of.
