Cops lock down Broadway bank after customer says to empty till

A confusing situation had Seattle Police Department officers surrounding the US Bank on Broadway and E Olive Way after the bank’s security company called to report a customer had told a bank teller to “empty the till” but then walked away without any cash. As is standard procedure, SPD surrounded the bank Friday morning to make certain the suspect was no longer inside and that customers were not being threatened. The suspect’s description was broadcast on East Precinct radio as a white male, 40 to 50, around 5’9″ with a heavy build, wearing a dark blue ski cap, a sleeveless muscle shirt. He left the bank on foot. The bank was able to provide the customer’s name to police.

Meanwhile, we’re also checking into the follow-up on this SWAT activity we reported earlier in the week in an apartment building on Melrose Ave. The man we believe SWAT was looking for doesn’t show up in the King County Jail register so it looks like they may not have gotten their man but we need to confirm with SPD. We know they impounded a moving truck from the scene but no word yet on what happened to the alleged bad guy and no official confirmation on why a SWAT team was required to track him down.
