Two allegations of anti-gay violence in the last week on Capitol Hill are working their way through the city’s legal process. In the first which we first reported last Wednesday, the Monday, August 2nd assault on a man and theft of his cell phone has resulted in charges for the man SPD says shouted “This dude’s gay!” before punching his victim in the face and kicking him until he was unconscious. From the SeattlePI:
A 24-year-old Seattle man is facing felony charges on allegations that he beat and robbed a man on Capitol Hill after deriding him for being gay.
Filing malicious harassment charges, King County prosecutors contend Hakeem Ahmed Musa attacked the man just after 2 a.m. Aug. 2 in the 800 block of East Pine Street.
From late at night on the same date, the Stranger has received the SPD report for another act of violence in which a man was beaten and anti-gay statements were allegedly made by the attacker:
As the stranger passed, he allegedly called the victim a faggot and then pushed the victim from behind, knocking him to the sidewalk. The report states that the victim “struck his face on the concrete” causing obvious lacerations to his nose, lip, and chin, as well as several chipped front teeth.
CHS has requested a copy of the report from SPD as it has not yet been made available via the department’s new online system. UPDATE: SPD has spoken with us about the attack and confirmed the Slog account of the attack linked above. We can add that the suspect description is a white male, approximately 5’11” and 160 pounds and in his 20s. As the Slog reported, the victim said the suspect was wearing a backward ball cap at the time of the attack. Officers reported that the victim’s face was covered in blood and that he had chipped teeth but that the man elected to take himself to the hospital. An SPD spokesperson says the incident is being investigated by the department’s bias unit.
August 2 incidents
- : Man arrested for allegedly beating, kicking victim, making anti-gay statement and stealing phone
- : Man reports assault, anti-gay statement
Every out-of-town homophobic bro that comes to Pike/Pine on the weekends matches the description of “white male, approximately 5’11” and 160 pounds and in his 20s. Wearing a backward baseball cap.”
The asshole will get away with this. It’s really so sad.
Thank God, Equal Rights Washington is out there protecting us by… supporting an electoral campaign for a judge?
