When CHS spoke to Matt Walsh, one of the new owners of Broadway Grill (he co-owns with husband C.J. Saretto) back in June 2010, he told us to expect some design changes post Pride. We stopped by Broadway Grill Monday and found that the bar and dining area have indeed been renovated. Key changes have been the installation of new lighting fixtures and a subdued, more monochromatic color scheme both inside and out.
In addition, Broadway Grill now offers a daily happy hour 2-6 pm and after 10 pm. This marks a change from their popular all day, every day happy hour offering
.
Over in Pike/Pine, Comet Tavern has a snazzy new paint job(thanks @lizwas). We have yet to find out from the Comet’s owners whether the new coat of pain is courtesy of the Grassroots movie folks.
Is the Broadway Grill gonna replace those awfully uncomfortable chairs?
I can’t believe that I didn’t notice the new paint job until yesterday. I walk by almost every day. Did they say when they did it?
In the last 2 weeks
They started painting this weekend. They also pressure washed the sidewalk out front – saw them doing that on my way to work last week sometime. Looks great!
To bad the top of the building still looks like ass. Seem’s to me like it’s a great opportunity for the building owner to gut it and make it into cheap artist lofts.
Let’s not hold our collective breath… this building has been let fall into disrepair for so long I doubt the landlord really gives a sh*t. It’s really too bad as it’s a nice old building and could be a great addition to the neighborhood if it was actually utilized.
Does anyone know the real story behind why the owner has never bothered to sell or fix this place up? The location is prime Cap Hill and it seems you could make good money. Or maybe it’s just meant to be perpetually empty and under-utilized just like the fantastic building at 2nd and Pike downtown…
I walked by the comet and it has to be the word paint job I’ve ever seen. Masking tape, anyone?
Absentee owner – low cost basis – retail rent at street gives plenty of yield.
Amazing that the upper stories are not refurbished artist space or other “studio” type housing. Great location for basic housing.
The place is an eyesore, indeed.
The Comet is gone, it has been replaces by a movie set – freshly pained in yuk black and nice maroon.
And the beer has lost its flavor.
They really do need to replace those uncomfortable chairs in the front dining room. We have stopped going there because they dig into your hips or you have to straddle them like a stool. And I hope they got rid of that one waitress who was always doing her side work or chatting or taking a break instead of paying attention to customers.
Yup. Those chairs suck.
Like the toned down colors though.
