Long live the king. Via the Stranger’s Slog, sad news today for Broadway. Another icon passes:
This just in from Twice Sold Tales’ queen Jamie:
Dear Sir: George, the cat who has been hanging out on Broadway for the last 15 years, died last week. This is the cat who crosses the street in the crosswalk, waiting for the light; the tuxedo cat who was very fat, and begged food off of everybody in the early mornings in front of the Vivace stand and who used to sit on a chair all day in the hair salon next door.
We featured this picture of George last September from @ryanmcminn’s Tweet stream.
RIP George.
Man, I loved that cat! Rest in peace little kitty!
Good night, sweet milk thief.
Sad to hear this. I passed and pet George many times around Espresso Vivace and the now defunct haircut place. He was a great, special cat.
Have fun at the big kitty farm in the sky, Georgie! Say hi to the other Hillcats!
First Slats died, now George has passed away. Capitol Hill is losing too many of it’s resident characters. George made waiting in line @ Vivace that much more enjoyable. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace. We love you.
George was such an awesome cat! I would see him all of the time when I went up to Vivace for a cup of coffee. One evening I was having a rough time and I went to Vivace for a cup of coffee. It was a bit damp and chilly, when I sat down outside George came over and jumped into my lap. Of course he was looking for the warmth of my lap, but him being on my lap made me feel really good.
Thanks little buddy, you’ll certainly be missed by many.
