As budget issues might force the city to cut some of the officials who help make the programs work, the Seattle Police Department is hosting a series of meetings this month to help inform and encourage block watch groups throughout the city. Capitol Hill’s block watch culture doesn’t seem to be as strong as other neighborhoods in the city — if you’re part of a Hill block watch, let us know [email protected] — and we seem to be doing fine. But if you’re interested in learning more about what resources are available, the meeting for our neck of the woods is on July 28th in Mount Baker. Here’s more info from the SPD Blotter Blog about the meetings:

Reminder: Night Out 2010 is Tuesday, August 3rd.
Just a reminder, if you have not already done so, please register for this year’s National Night Out Against Crime.
Our block (1700 14th Ave) used to have a block watch and I thought it was helpful. Our kids were raised on this street, which is more a single apartment neighborhood, and I appreciated the sense of community we had. I would like to host a block party on August 3rd, 6-8pm, potluck. We’ll have a bbq, block off the street (somewhat), and invite others to meet/share in a potluck/discuss block watch. Contact me if interested.
Scooter Lowrimore & Connie Chaplin is Planning Night Out next Tues 7-10pm. We are blocking off the street, doing italian sodas, hula hoop lessons, a wading pool in the street, big pot luck, free portraits by Scooter (me) and local music by Let’s Get Lost will be playing http://itunes.apple.com/album/rotten-apples/id361612269
