Man accused of running over 91-year-old Capitol Hill woman pleads not guilty

The man charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a 91-year-old Capitol Hill woman has pleaded not guilty, according to KIRO news.

Shawn Shipp, 34, was arraigned Thursday morning. We wrote about Shipp’s lengthy criminal history here.

91-year-old Marie Bush Fite was walking on the sidewalk on May 3rd in front of a parking space near Harvard and Thomas when she was hit by a truck and knocked to the ground as Shipp continued to back into the space, according to court documents. The Belmont Ave resident died of her injuries at the hospital that night. She was a few blocks from her home near Tashkent Park when she was struck. Fite was a Seattle native, born in the city in January, 1919.

Its time for someone like this to have a 30 year detox, minimum. How many strikes is he going to have? It scares me tremendously that this guy was my “neighbor on the hill.” Killing a lifelong resident of CH who has more stories to tell about our neighborhood than every entry on this blog-revolting.

Aside from what many of us think, drunk/impaired driving (yo–and pills count!) is not safe no matter how often you have done it. Impaired driving–esp when it occurs in a densely populated area such as my street–should be dealt with in the harshest of ways–meaning no more driver’s license for a set amount of time–say 3 years no exceptions.

How this guy pleads not guilty to killing someone with an SUV while high/drunk then fleeing the scene is beyond me. His attorney must be high/drunk.
