CHS has learned from a reliable source that a brewpub is the anticipated tenant for the old offices of Hunters Capital at 1000 East Pike Street. On April 1, 2010, Hunters Capital vacated its offices at 1000 E Pike to begin occupancy at the Broadway Building. We contacted Jill Cronauer of Hunters Capital who told us that she was “not in a position to confirm or deny” our report. Hunters Capital owns both 1000 East Pike and the Broadway Building and is credited with recruiting Elliott Bay Book Company to Capitol Hill.

In other hops news, we noticed that both New Belgium and Elysian had received approvals last month to establish a microbrewery at 1221 East PIke (the Elysian’s current location). We contacted New Belgium for an explanation. Bryan Simpson, the Media Relations Director at New Belgium, explained that the New Belgium/Elysian collaboration has been working well and that this is a further expansion. This new license would allow New Belgium beers to be brewed at the Elysian. In January 2008, New Belgium and Elysian announced that they would begin collaborating with each other to make the other’s products, jointly design new beers and expand their distribution channels. The Trip series of beers has been the most visible fruit of the collaboration.
this is good news for enviro beer lovers as well..New Belgium has been exploring ways to decrease the enviro costs to get their beers from brewery to mouth (the use of cans has finally caught on with a couple of the microbreweries) wihtout polluting our earth and ocean, and making another good regional beer here is a good move…now if only the elysian’s beers were not as pricey as they are, event a decent well-appointed happy hour and a fine tuning to the food there would be appreciated–it seems the quality of service and food has decreased in the last 4-5 years unfortunately–their beers are among the best in the city.
the food and service is spotty.
the service can be pretty good, but the food is mediocre at best since they changed the menu.
the beer, however, is fabu!
I like the bbq and field roast, but yeah, I generally go there more for the beer than anything else.
