One of our Capitol Hill own has amassed more than $18,000 in winnings so far on the syndicated television game show Jeopardy! Thanks to a tweet from @tanvinhseattle (a.k.a Seattle Times reporter Tan Vinh), CHS learned that Hilltop resident Randall Johnson is competing on the answer-in-the-form-of-a-question game show. And, apparently, doing quite well (spoiler alert!).
In the match that aired locally Monday night, Johnson emerged victorious in comeback fashion thanks to a tricky Final Jeopardy in the category U.S. Presidents: He’s the only president sworn in on a Catholic missal; it wasn’t his. You can check out this Jeopardy! message board discussion about the episode to learn the answer, er, question. Johnson blew it but still came out on top.
He did, however, nail Tuesday’s Final Jeopardy (subject: Canadian History!). Yup, the game show geeks have a thread for that episode, too. That makes Johnson a two-time winner. You can watch him go for his third victory Wednesday night at 7:30 PM on KOMO. According to the message board folks, a win in each this week’s five episodes would put Johnson into J!’s Tournament of Champions.
When he’s not competing in trivial pursuits, Johnson is owner and founder of NW Enology, “dedicated to providing exacting chemical analyses to serve the needs of wineries and home winemakers throughout the Pacific Northwest.” Geek. Big time credit, though, for identifying Capitol Hill in this goofy local market promo for the show.
Seattle resident Ken Jennings set a record when he won 74 straight games and $2.52 million as a Jeopardy! champ in 2004. CHS respects him most, however, for his taste in bread pudding.
