Blotter: Purse snatcher targets drunk woman on Belmont Ave

A woman walking home late at night alone and intoxicated had her purse stolen and was pushed to the ground as she was about to enter her Belmont Ave apartment building earlier this month, according to a Seattle Police Department report.

Early on Saturday, March 13 around 4:20 AM, the woman called 911 and told the responding police officer that somebody had pushed her to the ground and taken her purse but she could not provide additional details about the suspect because she was too intoxicated, according to the report. The officer found the woman’s purse on the ground a short distance from the apartment but the thief had made off with $26 cash and a debit card. A search of the area did not turn up a suspect and police were unable to collect any fingerprints from the purse or its contents.

In February, we reported on a street robbery not far from this incident in which a man said he was stabbed for $500 in cash he was carrying. We also recently reported on February’s street crime incidents including strong-arm robberies like this. You can check out that post to see a map of where street robberies occurred on the Hill.
