Want to do something about Capitol Hill crime? Meet with the SPD (No, really)

On this morning’s news of another street robbery on the Hill, neighbor zeebleoop writes:

this part of capitol hill can be pretty sketchy. very few people slow down or stop on these roads (including the police) making pedestrians an easy target. i’m wondering what we can do to get a few bike cops to patrol the streets between denny/olive and pike/pine/broadway?

One of the most direct ways to make something like this happen is coming up later this month. The East Precinct Community Crime Prevention meetings are a lot like many public meetings — slow moving and a little disorganized. But the community hot spots portion of the monthly sessions is like a refreshing bonus round of “can do” — residents and business owners raise their hands and take turns reporting issues for the East Precinct commander to hear and, yes, respond to. It’s extremely rare for a Capitol Hill issue to be brought up in these sessions, by the way — most people who come are from the Central District. But there’s no reason not to make your voice heard — and get an answer — at January’s meeting.

EPCPC Meeting:
Thursday January 28, 2010, 6:30 – 8pm, Seattle Vocational Institute, Room 401.  Topics include community concerns, precinct updates and a special guest, our new City Attorney Pete Holmes.

Often, when one neighborhood person reports on an issue, other neighbors chime in with their advice on what has and hasn’t worked for them in similar circumstances.

It really is a great opportunity to talk with the Captain and Lieutenant of the East Precinct. Your issues will be heard by all and addressed by the SPD staff.

And if you hang around afterwards you can even talk one-on-one with them.

Remember “if you don’t report it, it didn’t happen”.
