Not all bad biz news: New businesses putting Cap Hill retail space to work

Where there is death, there is also life. Here’s word on two businesses hanging their shingles in new place on Capitol Hill. Neither is a new Bailey Coy, of course — but it’s good to see an empty and a new space filled.

First, word from neighbor Renee about one of the retail tenants moving into the new mixed-use development, Chloe at E. Union and 14th:

Chloe’s retail layout

Signs just went up indicating that Mode Fitness will open soon in the retail space at the new Chloe Apts (E Union + 14th) I think the website is www.modeoffitness.com

Meanwhile, a retail space that had been empty for more than a year since its project was completed will finally have some activity. From neighbor Leah:

The big empty store fronts on 15th, right near E John street (across from the Safeway and Group Health) now have a sign in one of the store fronts that says, “Edward Jones“. It looks like one of their official signs. Maybe those stores are finally going to be filled? I think it was 131.

There was a coffee shop rumored for the East John Court development but that never came to pass.

I live very near the Chloe development and I was so excited to see them plaster two dozen or more utility pole adverts for their building with usually at least four posters per individual utility pole. It doesn’t appear that Chloe or its tenants care a whole lot about the environment of their neighborhood since they feel it’s an addition to the neighborhood by putting trash up on utility poles making the neighborhood look as trashy as Broadway.

I thought pretty much the same thing walking to work this morning when I saw the adverts on the poles about green living. If they send someone around to take them down after the event and recycle the paper used maybe they will be responsible neighbors. Will check on Monday!
