Overnight car accident injures off-duty police officer — UPDATE: Pine re-opened

Sections of Pine St. are closed off this morning as investigators continue to document an accident that injured a Seattle police officer on his way to work. The crash at E. Pine and Boylston involved two cars, one driven by an off-duty SPD officer. The crash occurred around 3 AM.

UPDATE:
Metro is now saying the lines are re-opened. Thanks for the note in comments from Adam alerting us to the new bulletin.

UPDATE:
More details on the crash. The police officer was headed to work at the East Precinct around 3 AM when another vehicle turned in front of him in the intersection of E. Pine and Boylston, SPD spokesperson Mark Jamieson told CHS this morning. The officer was transported to the hospital with possible head, neck and hand injuries. The driver of the other car was booked into King County Jail for driving while intoxicated.

Here’s the report from the SPD blotter:

On December 10th,  at approximately 2:56 am, an off-duty officer on his way to work at the East Precinct, was involved in a collision with another vehicle in the intersection of East Pine Street and Boylston Avenue.  The officer was travelling eastbound on East Pine while the other vehicle was travelling westbound on East Pine.  The suspect driver then turned suddenly left in front of the officer, causing the collision.  The officer was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department personnel and then transported to the hospital for further evaluation of a sore neck and hand.  The officer was evaluated and released from the hospital.  The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, but he was evaluated and processed for driving under the influence.  The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded and conducted their investigation.  The suspect, a 21-year old male, was arrested for DUI.  This is an active and ongoing investigation.

Here’s the information on the re-routed bus lines from King County Metro.

Routes 10, 11 & 49 are being affected on Capitol Hill this morning due to an ongoing accedent investiagtion on Pine St at Belmont Av.

To get into downtown Seattle board buses southbound on Broadway or westbound on Madison.  To get to points on Capitol Hill, board buses eastbound on Pike St at 6th Av or northbound on Bellevue Av or Broadway.

There is also a shuttle operating a loop via Broadway, John, 15th & Pine St every few minutes.

This disruption is expected to last through the morning peak commuting period.

Well, this would have been interesting to know this AM before I drove the 10 up to the crash scene only to be blocked. Doh! Guess that’s what I get for driving the first bus in the morning.

FYI: The front end of the police car looked totaled. Best wishes to the officer involved. At least he got a drunk driver off the street I suppose…
