Around 4:30pm on October 7th my black and white dog wearing a pink bandanna, Dita, was hit my a dark colored SUV. The SUV was traveling East toward Cal Anderson Park and struck Dita near the intersection of Denny and Belmont. Please e-mail me: [email protected] if you have any information concerning the accident.

Was the dog on a leash?
Was someone walking it?
Was the dog alone?
Did it dart into the street unexpectedly?
Did the SUV drive up on the sidewalk?

Even if the dog had been on a leash or darted out into traffic the owner of the SUV is still required to stop after an accident. Because they failed to stop it is a hit and run with property damage.

If the dog darted into traffic I doubt there is anything the dog owner could have done from legal stand point, if the SUV owner would have stopped. However since they did not stop –if found– the dog owner can press charges for the hit and run and damage to his pet.

All of what you write assumes a lot. You don’t know if the SUV owner actually knew it hit the dog.

The story is suspicious because it is so vague. If you had your beloved pet hit by a car, I think you would describe in vivid detail what actually happened. Especially if the SUV is clearly at fault.

I do hope the dog is okay but a dog getting out into traffic suggests some irresponsibility on the part of its owner.

@???? My priority was collecting my dog and getting her to the vet.

I am asking for help because I really do lack some basic information about the vehicle beyond the basics that I could discern while dealing with my injured dog.
