Scenes from Capitol Hill art walk: Gorgeous night, attendance light

It’s unlikely the weather for October’s art walk will be this spectacular. But maybe more people will show up. Thursday night’s Capitol Hill art walk was a little quiet. 12th Ave’s restaurants were busy and people were definitely out and about enjoying the last lovely gasp of summer. But for many businesses along Pike and Pine, it was like any other beautiful harvest summer night. It also goes to show how well attended some of the earlier art walks were this summer — a few of the pictures on this post compare/contrast scenes from September’s walk with July’s. Still, many of the galleries and the publicized art spots were bustling. And, later in the night, the streets were graced by guerrilla shopping-cart DJ 12-Hr Notice.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the Hill, more than 100 people marched against gun violence from Seattle Central to Volunteer Park.

that nobody knows this event is happening! I have seen no advertising for this in the last few weeks, and I am a person who walks all over the hill running errands throughout a typical week. You can have the greatest event in the world, but if no one knows it’s happening, then they aren’t going to show up.

It’s on the CHS events calendar which is a big plus. If the galleries hosting the event is doing a poor job of getting the message out, then it’s their own doing.

These art walk event have been around a long time .. and from a friend in local community media, SGN, their recent outreach has not been as good recently as in the past. Changing the name has most likely confused people as well. What is it and who are these new people sort of thing. Tinkering with event names is fun, but, most always is negative for a time as people relearn what is happening.

I love art, but some of the offerings in this walk thing are of passing interest, and I feel cornered in organized events to spend more time than I want viewing displays of no interest to me.

Hope they can find their pace, and keep going, maybe scale back to 5 or 6 well chosen venues with better product?

Non drinkers and AA folks don’t do bars …. hint, hint.
