No cougar (yet!) on Broadway: Visit by WDFW officers explained

Last week, CHS noted a report of Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife officers conducting an investigation of some sort on Broadway. You don’t see game wardens at Starbucks every day so we looked into the situation. Thought maybe we were being punk’d or there was a new hipster uniform trend we weren’t aware of — but got a call from Capt. Bill Hebner this afternoon with some more information about the incident.

Hebner said he could not discuss the specifics of the investigation but said he and another WDFW officer were on Broadway dealing with standard “law enforcement matters.” Last week, a spokesperson said WDFW officers sometimes are involved in general law enforcement matters in addition to fishing laws or investigating wholesalers or restaurants for game violations. Though Hebner declined to provide more details about the investigation, he assured CHS that his agency isn’t aware of any dangerous wild animals roaming the area.

“There’s no cougar on Broadway,” Hebner said. “I can say that with certainty. Well… not one we were looking for.”
