Though we are about to be hit by a September heat wave, the seasons are changing. In addition to the start of falling leaves and dewy mornings, on Capitol Hill, that means spiders, spiders everywhere. Neighborhood camera-toter zeebleoop added this amazing shot of a Capitol Hill arachnid to the CHS flickr pool.
why do the spiders do this this time of year?
We feed the ones in our garden all the time. I’ve been telling him for a year now that the big spiders come out in the fall. He’s pretty psyched.
Here’s a garden spider (in our garden), eating a cricket that we fed him/her: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kayvaan/3932836835/
I know spiders are uber beneficial, but really, ick. I hate walking through those spider trails floating across walking routes this time of year. I worry the owner is jumping a ride in my hair.
I spotted the biggest spider I have ever seen last week on 19th near Aloha (coming for you Justin)! The body was the size of small grape. I think it must have been pregnant.
No, it’s obviously a super-spider: first Snowpocalypse, then Heatpocalypse, and finally the Spiderpocalypse.
Jeanine, I would not worry about the spider getting in your hair. Most likely it will crawl in your ear and lay its eggs.
