Jeanine posted about on an event you might want to check out if a) you like poetry, b) you like Capitol Hill and c) you like poetry about Capitol Hill. Hugo House is hosting a release party for Hill Poems tonight at 7p. Add, d) you like free things. Here’s a sample from the collection via Citizen Rain:
“Three On A Match,” by Carol Guess
Someone drove past the wrong way on I-5. Above us our exit exploded in horns. We made a deal. Sealed it, bedroom door too tight to squeal. All the room could do was wait for someone to open a window. It’s getting hot in here, dragging trees inside for scenery. You were me, checking and re-checking the stove. The room wanted out, away from my habit. Checking the dryer, checking the closet, reading the paper by the light of the stove. Your second thoughts had second thoughts of their own. Confidante, that’s the word I meant. Her hair in curls at the nape of her neck. You might’ve brought me to that room and never told me. You might’ve killed her in that room and never told me. In my mind it’s a dollhouse and she’s its best citizen, your thumbnail longer than her red plastic shoes.
You can also swing by CHS sponsor Vino Verite for their weekly tasting starting tonight at 6p to get you in a poetic kind of mood. Got a Capitol Hill poem of your own? Share it here.
