Tonight’s Capitol Hill art walk will feature a new neighborhood participant in the festivities. Art start-up Storybrush is hosting an art walk party to celebrate its launch. You can find it on 10th just below the new Atlas location.
CHS took this celebratory opportunity to ask the new guys a few questions about their biz mixing dot com technology and oil paining. Here’s what we learned from Storybrush’s Daniel.
How would you describe Storybrush if you were shouting to somebody at a packed, loud, very happening Storybrush launch party?
It’s an oil painting… of a photograph. Yeah, of whichever photograph your heart desires, and it’s totally hand-painted by classically trained artists. It arrives in the mail stretched and ready to hang. Just upload your image!
What kinds of pictures do people typically want painted? Am I the 500th person to ask about whether Storybrush paints naughty pictures?
Typically they’re portraits. We get a lot of dog and cat ones. People too.
Naughty pictures sound exciting! We just dropped off invites to our launch party at Babeland, another Capitol Hill Art Walk venue, so we’re hoping to see some naughty Storybrush paintings soon.
Why did you choose Capitol Hill as the US home for Storybrush? What part of the business happens here?
We prefer to walk everywhere, and having moved to Seattle from Brooklyn, Capitol Hill seemed like the place to be. We live and work on the hill and feel privileged to do so. Half of the Storybrush team is here, where we run Outhause Image Workspace, a collaborative practice founded by imagemakers working in photography and design. The concept for Storybrush and all the design work are carried out at our Capitol Hill studio.
Any chance you guys will do a coffee shop or gallery show on the Hill?
Sure! We’re really excited to do a pet portrait show, and are always on the lookout for other ideas.
Would this make a good Storybrush portrait?
After a long discussion, we can’t come up with any reason why it wouldn’t make a good painting. We would be excited to see the final product and curious to hear the story behind your selection. It fits nicely with our mission of connecting the spontaneity of digital photography with the timelessness of a painting. We encourage you to have it painted and share your story!
In fact, we’d like to extend a 15% discount to you and the first 15 CHS readers to contact us. Your code is CHS15PERCENT. Everyone else should contact us at [email protected] to get the code.
Paint your life. Bring it home.
Thanks to Daniel and good luck to Storybrush. Beyond Storybrush’s party, here is a complete list of tonight’s Capitol Hill art walk showings, etc.
