Huge police perimeter around Seattle Central

Concern about a ‘suspicious item’ found by a passerby early Wednesday in the 1700 block of Harvard Ave E shut down streets around Seattle Central as a Seattle Police Department bomb squad investigated the scene. The area was shut down for around 3 hours before officers re-opened the streets just before 5:00 AM after determining the item was not explosive. A Seattle City Light crew arrived at the scene around 4:22 AM but it’s not yet clear what role they played in the incident. The item has not been identified but an officer at the scene said it was not something that would “go boom.” Below is my live coverage from the morning.

3:40AM – No details from SPD yet but all blocks around Seattle Central have been cordoned off. Broadway remains open but blocks between Denny and Pine are blocked by police cruisers and tape.
