Found this very talented guy outside the Harvard Square QFC. He was using an amp with the cello. Very talented. He really cranks it up near the halfway mark. I think he said his name is Brandon Smith.

Thanks for sharing – and love the sidewalk life going on around him, too.
Beautiful!
It reminds me of an article I saw once about a Very Famous Violinist who set up on a street corner, somewhere on the East Coast, and played for a long time, and was only recognized by one or two people, and only managed to busk some small amount of money. I guess I’m kind of hazy on the details, but I love the sound of strings!
Alaskalainen, you are referring to one of my favorite articles. Here is what I posted when I shared this article with friends in April:
This article just won the Pulitzer Prize. I thought it was great and it includes video clips that are great too (esp. if you like analyzing people’s behavior). It also has an audio link at the top of the article to listen to the entire performance. It is long but worth the read.
Pearls Before Breakfast
Can one of the nation’s great musicians cut through the fog of a D.C. rush hour? Let’s find out.
Joshua Bell is one of the world’s greatest violinists. His instrument of choice is a multimillion-dollar Stradivarius. If he played it for spare change, incognito, outside a bustling Metro stop in Washington, would anyone notice?
Here’s more of Brandon:

He should learn from this kid who makes 70 pounds an hour.
back in ought two there was a guy down by the bank of america who used to play Tool on a cello. it was bad.ass.
I wonder if this was the same guy I saw and talked to downtown a few months ago. His playing was stunning. It made me really mad at myself for not carrying cash all the time. This guy’s look doesn’t ring as the same person, but maybe the guy I talked to was wearing a hat or something.
Anyway, lesson to others: carry a couple bucks for emergency donation!
