Eric had a bachelor party to attend last night, so I decided to grab dinner for myself, while walking up the hill. Prompted by Uncle Vinny and Ryan, a commenter at my blog, I stopped in at Saley Crepes. I had an au saumon savory crepe. Aissa Diouf’s niece was making the crepes last night and mine was delicious. Beyonce was playing in the background and a friend of the niece was chatting with her. I read through this week’s Stranger and finished my crepe. Since Saley does not offer alcoholic drinks, I wandered down to Faire Gallery Cafe and had a glass of $7.50 tempranillo. I balked at the price a bit but it was a very generous pour. Sheba, the owner and Charles Johnson’s daughter, was the bartender/barrista last night. She has a disarming manner and I liked her immediately. I agree that the furniture was shopworn, but this did not bother me. Apparently, Sheba recently got married. I intend to return to Faire, so Eric and I can sample some of their vegan-friendly sandwiches. They have free jazz on Sunday nights.
I’ve been trying to keep myself from posting here about Saley… glad you stepped into the breach, Seadevi. I’ve never had anything but coffee from Faire, I’ll have to check out their boozy offerings.
Lunch there today (2/28/09): tasty combination plate for ~ $9 – one savory and one dessert crepe.
