Add 3 more to the Capitol Hill ice cream list

Back when this site wrote mostly about the Fancy Pants neighborhood, we kept a popular list of the five best options for ice cream in the area:

  1. Gelato at Vios
  2. Soft-serve at Tully’s at 19th and Aloha — if Vios ain’t open
  3. The Good Orange at Fuel Coffee on 19th — believe it or not, ice + orange juice + soy milk = goodness
  4. A missile pop from the ghetto-ass ice cream truck that cruises the ‘hood — head to Volunteer Park if you want a guaranteed rendezvous
  5. Scoop Du Jour down Madison way
  6. Add two more to the list from the Hilltop area and one from Broadway:

  7. Palermo has gelato. Of course it does. But we didn’t put 2 and 2 together until walking by today and seeing somebody enjoying a scoop of chocolate.
  8. Smith’s menu has your choice of a root beer or Guinness float made with (very-nearly a Capitol Hill win) Molly Moons ice cream. (Though, if we’re going to start expanding list to include menu items, maybe it’s time to add the Canterbury brownie sundae.)
  9. CrazyCherry on Broadway with convenient view of the light rail station construction zone — Never been in there, you?

CrazyCherry is frozen yogurt that actually tastes like yogurt, rather than softserve. I think it’s yummy (and their toppings are usually quite fresh) but you’d better be expecting some tanginess.

Fyi If you are heading south on 24th and have an ice cream hankering, Mont’s Market across from Montlake library has a fancy ice cream by the scoop setup now.

Dick’s, like the sun and moon, seems hardly necessary to note. And yet it belongs!

I’ll second the vote for Dick’s on Broadway (they have cones too) and also McDonald’s on Madison (First Hill) has soft serve and regular ice cream too.

crazycherry is DELICIOUS. it’s the same thing as pinkberry if you’ve been there. the frozen yogurt and fresh fruits are a dream.

pagliacci on broadway has gelato too. you should just walk to crazycherry 3 blocks away though.

if you include restaurants there are quite a few on broadway. i recommend charlie’s fried ice cream.

Looks like we’ll be getting our own Molly Moon’s on Pine St.
From Puget Sound Business Journal 1 Aug:
The couple also hope to capitalize from the expected addition of new retail tenants at Oddfellows Hall, the historic Capitol Hill building where they now operate. Due to rising rents, Seattle Running Company will move from its 4,200-square-foot space to a smaller storefront next door.

The move will free up room for a new restaurant operated by Linda Derschang, owner of the popular nearby bar Linda’s Tavern, and possibly a Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream Shop, Scott McCoubrey said.

Nice catch. I remember reading the first 3 paragraphs of that article in their freebie section. All sorts of good info in that darn PSBJ — too bad they hide all the goodies behind a subscription wall. The people need to know this stuff!
