Chop Suey Seattle looking for an intern

“Intern” is (of course) the not-so-secret code word for “unpaid.” Intern-hunting has begun, starting with a Facebook message to members of the Chop Suey group:

Prospects must have a love for music. Would be helping do marketing and office duties. Will also have the opportunity to learn about the music industry from the inside out and see shows for free. Send a resume or direct any questions to [email protected]. No phone calls or drop ins please.

Besides the potential “to learn learn about the music industry,” this could be an interesting opportunity to witness first hand and participate in a Seattle music club’s transition into ownership by a J-pop nightclub. What Japanese nightclub? you may ask. Superficial answers provided in a recent press release: “K’s Dream, a nightclub based in Chiba City, Japan, is in the process of acquiring Seattle nightclub Chop Suey. Bookings and staff will remain the same. More info to come as everything becomes solidified.” Regardless of the terms-of-sale solidification, I request they please keep the beverages in liquid form: no weird bubble tea mixers.

Bubble tea is Taiwanese, not Japanese. Still it’s kind of strange to see a Japanese company buy up an American club with a Chinese-styled name.
