Do you live on an arterial street like 15th, 19th, Aloha or the John/Thomas continuum? If so, you’re missing out on one of the values of living in a place like our part of Capitol Hill — you can’t close your street for a block party.
We sometimes think of CHS as a block party for everybody. No burgers or ice cream here, of course, but it does give you a chance to meet your neighbors and we’re hoping things like our Facebook profile will give some of you a chance to connect and share even more information, advice and neighborhood good times. All of this pales, however, compared to a real live street party with your neighbors.
We suggest you turn that frown upside down, neighbor, and transform your unfortunate predicament. To get the full value of living on Capitol Hill, you need to make sure to be invited to all block parties in your area. The next time you see a street shut down don’t be shy even if you don’t really live on 18th or 20th Ave. It’s your special right as an arterial resident to claim nearby blocks as your own. Enjoy the party.
Do you know if there’s already a shared google calendar or something out there? I always find out about these block-fests after the fact.

Haha! Very true–and we can’t open our windows because of the traffic noise, either. Boo Hoo to us! :D
Dunno. Used to live down on Western Ave so these streets seem pretty quiet to us.
Jesse, there’s no single calendar that really does the job. We’ll post about some of the calendars we look at and see if there’s an easy way to bring the information together. Don’t think we can sign up for maintaining a CHS-area calendar, though. Maybe with help from everybody???
