Goodbye Mama Leahy

We hadn’t heard of Mary Leahy before her obituary ran in the Seattle Times this weekend but she was a great Capitol Hill character it seems. We noted this little tidbit from the article:

Growing up in a family of 12 didn’t seem unusual, said Terry Leahy, because there were a lot of large Catholic families living on Capitol Hill. At one time, he said, there were 114 kids on his block on 17th Avenue East.

We’ve heard that these large families are why so many homes up here have been carved up into tiny rooms. Our house is way too small for 12, thank goodness.
